FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is an Air Pistol?
An air pistol is a type of handgun that uses compressed air or gas to fire pellets in .177, 22 or .25 CAL.. Unlike traditional firearms, air pistols do not use gunpowder, making them a quieter and safer option for target shooting and small game hunting.
How does an Air Pistol work?
Air pistols operate by using a high-pressure air reservoir to propel pellets down the barrel. When the trigger is pulled, the compressed air is released, pushing the pellet out of the barrel. AirForce air pistols are designed for use with clean, dry compressed air, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide. The maximum fill pressure is 3,000 pounds per square inch (psi), which is 206 bar. A pressure relief device has been installed in the air tank and can rupture if the internal pressure exceeds 3,000 psi/206 bar. This reservoir can be filled with using a hand pump, scuba tank, or a compressor.
What are the benefits of using an Air Pistol?
The benefits of using an air pistol include increased safety due to the lack of gunpowder, reduced noise levels making them ideal for backyard shooting, and lower costs associated with pellets compared to traditional ammunition. Additionally, air pistols require less maintenance than firearms.
Are Air Pistols accurate?
Yes, modern air pistols are highly accurate and are used in competitive shooting sports. They are designed with precision barrels and adjustable sights to improve accuracy.
What types of pellets should I use with my Air Pistol?
The type of pellet to use depends on your intended use. Wadcutters are best for target shooting due to their flat heads which make clean holes in paper targets. Domed pellets are ideal for hunting and general use due to their aerodynamic shape. Hollow point pellets are great for pest control as they expand upon impact.
How do I maintain my Air Pistol?
Maintaining your air pistol involves regular cleaning of the barrel, however, there should be no cleaning of moving parts as this removes out special coatings that we apply. Do not use any lubricants on the moving. Store the air pistol in a cool, dry place to prevent rust and corrosion.
Are there any safety tips for using an Air Pistol?
Yes, there are several safety tips for using an air pistol. Always treat the air pistol as if it is loaded, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, never point the air pistol at anything you do not intend to shoot, wear eye protection when shooting, and store the air pistol and pellets securely out of reach of children. All AirForce airguns are extremely powerful and should always be used with a safe backstop. If you are shooting paper targets, a firearm safe bullet trap is adequate, as long as precautions are taken for safety if the trap is ever missed. We recommend you use a trap that will stop a bullet from a .22 long rifle cartridge fired from a rifle.
Can I use an Air Pistol for hunting?
Yes, air pistols can be used for hunting small game and pest control. Ensure you choose a model with sufficient power and accuracy, and always follow local hunting regulations.
